Auckland FC bolster midfield with signing of Bayliss

Auckland FC has officially signed midfielder Bayliss to strengthen their midfield. This addition is expected to enhance the team's performance in the upcoming season.

Auckland FC has officially announced the acquisition of attacking midfielder Lachlan Bayliss from Newcastle Jets. The 23-year-old player joins the New Zealand club after a successful stint in Australia, where he made 71 appearances and netted six goals for the Jets.

Successful Tenure at Newcastle Jets

During his time with Newcastle, Bayliss was instrumental in the team's success, contributing to their A-League Premiership and Australia Cup double in the 2025/26 season. In a statement, Bayliss expressed his excitement about joining Auckland FC, stating, "To be joining Auckland off the back of a World Cup is a dream." He emphasized the vibrant atmosphere of the club, saying, "I've seen what this club means to the fans." Bayliss is eager to bring his energy to the team and contribute to its ambitions.

International Experience and Versatility

Born in Australia and raised in Darwin, Bayliss qualifies for New Zealand through his late father. He has represented New Zealand at the international level, making his debut against Finland in March 2026 and previously competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Currently, he is part of the All Whites squad for the FIFA World Cup in North America. Bayliss began his A-League career with Central Coast Mariners Academy before moving to Newcastle Jets, where he made 62 A-League appearances, contributing six goals and five assists.

Auckland FC's Director of Football, Terry McFlynn, noted that Bayliss has been on the club's radar for some time, praising his energy, versatility, and technical skills. "Winning the Premiership and the Cup with Newcastle shows he knows what it takes to win," McFlynn remarked. Bayliss's ability to play in various midfield roles will provide Auckland FC with additional attacking options as he joins his new teammates following the World Cup.
