Young set to return but Dockers to play it safe with other key players

Young is expected to make his return to the field, but the Dockers are taking a cautious approach with other key players to ensure their safety and well-being.

Fremantle is preparing for their upcoming match against North Melbourne with a cautious approach regarding some of their key players. The Dockers, currently leading the ladder with an impressive 11-match winning streak, are set to face North Melbourne in Bunbury, located 175km south of Perth.

Player Updates

While Caleb Serong will miss his third consecutive game due to a calf injury, the team is expected to welcome back star midfielder Hayden Young, who has recovered from a concussion. Additionally, Matthew Johnson has been cleared to participate after experiencing a hamstring scare during last week's 25-point victory over Brisbane.

Coaching Decisions

Coach Justin Longmuir is considering resting defender Brennan Cox, who sustained a knee knock in the previous match but has not suffered any serious injury. Longmuir stated, "Coxy is an interesting one... With the bye next week, is it an opportunity to give him a couple of weeks off to try and get that knee right?" The decision will depend on how Cox feels after training.

If Cox does not play against North Melbourne, Oscar McDonald is likely to step in after performing well while Alex Pearce was out. The club's depth allows them to take a measured approach with players returning from injury, which is why ruckman Sean Darcy and midfielder Jaeger O'Meara will continue their recovery in the WAFL for at least another week.

Darcy, who had a strong start to the season, faced setbacks due to a concussion and a subsequent calf injury. O'Meara, who recently represented WA in the AAMI Origin, is recovering from a severe facial fracture sustained during training. Longmuir noted the importance of taking time to ensure O'Meara's full recovery, saying, "I think the luxury we have at the moment is making sure we get JOM (O'Meara) right after a nasty incident, a smashed face really."

As Fremantle continues to navigate player fitness and recovery, they remain focused on maintaining their successful momentum as they head into the match against North Melbourne.
