Yan Diomande: Real Madrid sign Ivory Coast winger from RB Leipzig - BBC Sport
Real Madrid has completed the signing of Yan Diomande, the talented winger from RB Leipzig. The Ivory Coast international is expected to make a significant impact in La Liga.

Real Madrid has officially acquired Ivory Coast international Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig for a fee that could reach up to £120 million (approximately 140 million euros). The 19-year-old winger has committed to a seven-year contract with the Spanish giants, marking a significant investment that may surpass the £115 million (around 133.9 million euros) the club paid Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham in June 2023.
Competition for Diomande
Paris Saint-Germain was initially in the running to sign Diomande, having made a £102.5 million bid that was ultimately rejected. Following this, PSG withdrew from the pursuit, allowing Real Madrid to secure the talented winger. If the full £120 million is paid, Diomande will become the fourth most expensive player in football history, trailing only Neymar and Kylian Mbappe of PSG, as well as Alexander Isak, formerly of Newcastle and now with Liverpool. Additionally, Diomande will be recognized as the most expensive African player, exceeding the £72 million Arsenal spent on Nicolas Pepe in 2019.
Diomande's Journey and Impact
Before joining Real Madrid, Diomande had a remarkable season with RB Leipzig, where he was named the Bundesliga's Young Player of the Season for 2025-26, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists. He also represented Ivory Coast in the World Cup, participating in all four matches before the team was eliminated by Norway in the round of 32. Diomande's journey began in his native Ivory Coast, followed by a stint at an academy in the United States, and then moves to Leganes in Spain and Leipzig.
Real Madrid's signing of Diomande underscores the club's strategy of investing in young, elite talent before they reach their full potential. Known for his explosive pace, dribbling skills, and creativity, Diomande is capable of playing on either wing, making him a versatile addition to the squad. His impressive performances in his first full season in Europe have drawn attention from several top clubs, solidifying his status as one of football's most exciting prospects.
