Ferran Torres, the Spanish international who netted the decisive goal in the recent World Cup final, has officially joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) from Barcelona. The transfer fee for the 26-year-old striker is reported to be 50 million euros (approximately $58 million).

PSG Welcomes Torres

In a statement released on Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain expressed their excitement about securing Torres's services, confirming that he has signed a contract with the club until 2031. Torres shared his enthusiasm about the move, stating he is "delighted to be beginning a new adventure at such an ambitious club as Paris St Germain." He also extended his gratitude to PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, football advisor Luis Campos, and coach Luis Enrique for the opportunity to join the team, expressing his desire to contribute to the club's trophy haul.

A Glorious Career at Barcelona

Before his transfer, Torres had a successful stint at Barcelona, where he won three La Liga titles. He joined the club during the 2021/22 season and made a significant impact, scoring 65 goals in 207 appearances. In the last campaign, he recorded 21 goals and three assists in 49 matches, helping Barcelona retain their La Liga title. Barcelona acknowledged his contributions over the past four and a half seasons, wishing him well in his future endeavors.

Torres's move to PSG could potentially influence Liverpool's pursuit of PSG winger Bradley Barcola, who impressed during the World Cup. The two clubs have been in negotiations, but PSG's asking price of around 150 million euros ($173 million) has posed a challenge.
