Wollongong Olympic has reclaimed the top position in the Premier League 1 standings following a narrow 1-0 victory over Cringila Lions on Sunday. The match, held at Ian McLennan Park, showcased a standout performance from Olympic goalkeeper Hayden Durose, who played a crucial role in securing the three points for his team.

Durose's Stellar Performance

Durose was instrumental in keeping the Lions at bay, delivering a series of impressive saves that frustrated Cringila's attempts to score. The Lions, aiming for their sixth consecutive win, had several opportunities to take the lead, particularly through Isaac Kostovski. However, Durose denied Kostovski in a one-on-one situation midway through the first half, executing a remarkable save from close range.

His heroics continued in the second half, where he made a stunning triple-save, first thwarting Cringila substitute Harrison Anagnostopoulos and then executing a double save against Andre Dias. Despite Cringila's dominance in chances, it was Wollongong Olympic that found the back of the net against the run of play. Yasukawa Masato scored the decisive goal, skillfully navigating past two defenders before placing a left-footed shot into the corner of the goal.

The Lions were not ready to concede defeat easily, and just ten minutes after Olympic's goal, Kostovski had another opportunity to equalize. His shot beat Durose but struck the post, much to the relief of Olympic and their supporters. Following the match, Olympic midfielder Jason Madonis acknowledged the team's reliance on Durose's exceptional performance, stating, "We did ride our luck... Durose was definitely our man-of-the-match. He has been top quality all year."
