Vancouver Whitecaps FC have acquired Cheikh Sabaly, a Senegalese international forward and AFCON champion, to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC has officially announced the acquisition of Senegalese international forward Cheikh Sabaly from French Ligue 1 club FC Metz. The 26-year-old has signed a contract that extends through the 2028-29 Major League Soccer season, with an option for the 2029-30 season. His joining the MLS roster is contingent upon the completion of his international transfer certificate, visa, work permit, and medical examination.

Sabaly's Impressive Track Record

Cheikh Sabaly has made a significant impact in his career thus far, most recently leading FC Metz in scoring during the 2024-25 Ligue 2 season with 15 goals, which played a crucial role in the team's promotion to Ligue 1. In addition to his club success, he is also a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner with the Senegal national team, where he has made 12 appearances, contributing one goal and four assists. Over his professional career, Sabaly has amassed over 200 appearances, recording 72 goal contributions.

Having spent the last eight years with FC Metz, Sabaly has started 91 of his 122 appearances across various competitions, scoring 21 goals and providing 11 assists. His versatility allows him to play both as a winger and a forward. Throughout his tenure at Metz, he also had three loan spells, including a successful stint with Pau FC, where he scored 12 goals and provided nine assists, helping the team achieve promotion from the French third tier to Ligue 2.
