Turkish club Trabzonspor has announced that it has initiated transfer discussions with Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah. The club's chairman expressed optimism about finalizing the deal within the week.

On Tuesday, Trabzonspor confirmed via a statement on Turkey’s public disclosure platform that negotiations have commenced to bring Salah, who is currently a free agent, to their squad. Chairman Ertugrul Dogan spoke to broadcaster A Spor shortly after the announcement, indicating that while the transfer is not yet finalized, Salah is anticipated to arrive in Istanbul for medical examinations on Wednesday before heading to Trabzon to complete the signing.

Salah's Career Highlights

Salah recently departed Liverpool after a successful nine-year tenure, during which he netted 257 goals in 442 appearances and secured two Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy. His performance in the 2024-25 season was particularly noteworthy, as he scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists, matching the Premier League record for total goal involvements in a single season. He was honored as the Premier League Player of the Season and received both the Golden Boot and the Playmaker Award, marking a historic achievement as the first player to win all three in one season.

However, Salah's form dipped in the following season, where he managed only seven goals and seven assists in 27 league matches. His reduced playing time, including being benched in Champions League fixtures, led to tensions with Liverpool’s then-manager Arne Slot.

Trabzonspor's Position in Turkish Football

Trabzonspor, regarded as the fourth-largest club in Turkey behind Istanbul giants Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, and Besiktas, finished third in the Super Lig last season and will compete in the Europa League playoff round. Salah was previously linked with a move to Besiktas, but negotiations reportedly stalled over financial and image rights issues.
