PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers have officially announced the signing of Dutch international forward Vincent Janssen on a two-year contract that will extend through the 2027-28 season, pending the acquisition of his P-1 visa. This move marks a significant addition to the Timbers' roster as they look to enhance their attacking options.

Janssen's Impressive Career

Janssen joins the Timbers on a free transfer after a successful four-year tenure with Royal Antwerp FC in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. The 32-year-old forward, originally from Heesch, Netherlands, has accumulated 454 professional appearances throughout his career, netting 165 goals and providing 61 assists from 2013 to 2026. Notably, he becomes the first Dutch player in the history of the club's Major League Soccer (MLS) participation.

Experience Across Multiple Leagues

Throughout his career, Janssen has played in top leagues across five countries, including the English Premier League, Liga MX, Belgian Pro League, Turkish Süper Lig, and Eredivisie. His recent stint at Royal Antwerp saw him make 173 appearances, scoring 64 goals and assisting 27 times. He also made headlines during the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League, where he scored two goals, including one against FC Barcelona in a group-stage match.

International Accomplishments

On the international stage, Janssen has earned 22 caps for the Netherlands, scoring seven goals. He participated in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers leading up to the 2018 tournament and was part of the Dutch squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he played in two group-stage matches. His debut for the national team came on March 25, 2016, against France, and he quickly made an impact by scoring his first international goal against England shortly thereafter.
