Sydney FC Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo has confirmed that the club is actively pursuing new signings as they prepare for the upcoming A-League season. Amidst speculation of a new striker joining the squad and interest in Manchester United defender James Overy, the Sky Blues are looking to bolster their roster.

Recent Signings and Transfer Activity

This off-season, Sydney FC has already made three notable signings. Academy graduate Jake Holman has returned to the club on a three-year deal after a spell with Walsall, while striker Gabriel Popovic has joined from Perth Glory. However, the most significant addition is Takahiro Sekine, a two-time AFC Champions League winner, who has signed a three-year contract with the club.

In an exclusive interview with aleagues.com.au, Kisnorbo indicated that further transfers are on the horizon. “Yeah, I think there’s things to happen, to be honest,” he stated. He acknowledged that the timing of any new arrivals is uncertain but emphasized that there is room in the squad for additional players.

Addressing Squad Concerns

With striker Patrick Wood leaving the club and Spanish import Víctor Campuzano facing a lengthy absence due to an ACL injury, Sydney FC is currently short on attacking options. Kisnorbo expressed concern over this situation, noting, “Unfortunately Victor suffered that ACL injury, which is devastating because he’s a great guy, great player.” He confirmed that the club is in negotiations to secure a new forward, highlighting the need for depth in the attacking department.

“There is a gap. Potentially, there could be some movement around that space, but we’ll have to just wait and see because obviously things take a bit of time to happen,” Kisnorbo added.

As the transfer window remains open, the immediate focus for Sydney FC shifts to their upcoming Australia Cup quarter-final match against SD Raiders. The Sky Blues secured their place in the quarter-finals after a 4-2 victory over Brisbane Roar last weekend, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting clash.
