Sporting KC signs free agent forward Calvin Harris | Sporting Kansas City

Sporting Kansas City has signed free agent forward Calvin Harris to bolster their attacking options. The addition aims to strengthen the team's performance for the upcoming season.

Sporting Kansas City has officially signed forward Calvin Harris, a 25-year-old player, as a free agent, the club announced today. Harris has agreed to a one-and-a-half-year contract with Major League Soccer (MLS) that will run through June 2027, including an option for the 2027-2028 season.

Career Overview

Calvin Harris joins Sporting KC after a successful stint in the league, where he has accumulated 22 goals and 11 assists throughout his professional career. His MLS experience includes 101 regular-season appearances with FC Cincinnati from 2021 to 2022 and the Colorado Rapids from 2023 to 2025. In his most recent season with the Rapids, Harris achieved a career-high performance, netting five goals and providing four assists while primarily playing on the right wing.

Harris began his professional journey after signing a Generation adidas contract, being selected as the second overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft by FC Cincinnati. Over two seasons with Cincinnati, he made 26 appearances, scoring two goals and assisting once before being traded to Colorado ahead of the 2023 season. His early 2023 form saw him score four goals in just five games for Colorado Rapids 2, which led to a more prominent role with the first team, where he finished the season with one goal and three assists in 21 competitive matches.

International Background and College Career

Originally from Middlesbrough, England, Harris moved to Hong Kong at the age of 10, where he played youth soccer with Hong Kong FC. He later relocated to New Zealand to join Wellington Phoenix, scoring twice in six appearances for their reserve team in 2018. In 2019, he moved to the United States to play collegiate soccer at Wake Forest University, where he recorded 10 goals and five assists in 32 matches over two seasons, earning a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2019.

As Sporting Kansas City prepares for the 2026 season, they have now secured 18 players under contract, including the newly signed Harris. The team is currently in West Palm Beach, Florida, for their preseason training, which will continue until January 31 before moving to the Coachella Valley Invitational in Palm Springs, California, from February 3 to 14.
