Sporting Kansas City has officially announced the acquisition of 29-year-old defender Emir Karic from Austrian club Sturm Graz. The transfer includes a two-year contract with Major League Soccer, extending through the 2027-2028 season, along with a club option for the 2028-2029 season. Karic will take up an international roster spot for Sporting, pending the receipt of his P1 visa and International Transfer Certificate.

Primarily playing as a left back, Karic boasts an impressive career with 343 appearances across various leagues in Austria and Germany, contributing seven goals and 21 assists. His extensive experience includes significant stints in both the German Bundesliga and European competitions. David Lee, President of Soccer Operations and General Manager, expressed enthusiasm about Karic’s arrival, highlighting his experience and technical skills as assets that will enhance the team's performance. Development and Achievements

Born in Linz, Austria, Karic began his career in the youth system of LASK and made his professional debut at 17. He later joined FC Liefering, where he developed in the Austrian second division, recording five assists in 63 appearances. In 2018, he transitioned to SC Rheindorf Altach in the Austrian Bundesliga, where he became a regular starter, playing 84 matches and scoring his first professional goal in November 2019.

Karic's move to Germany in 2021 saw him join SV Darmstadt 98 in the 2. Bundesliga, where he made 85 appearances and scored four goals, contributing to the team's promotion to the Bundesliga. After Darmstadt's relegation, he returned to Austria to join Sturm Graz, helping the club retain the Austrian Bundesliga title.
