Sounders FC acquires Dejan Joveljić from Sporting Kansas City | Seattle Sounders

Seattle Sounders FC has successfully acquired forward Dejan Joveljić from Sporting Kansas City. This move aims to bolster the team's offensive lineup as they prepare for the new season.

Sounders FC has officially announced the acquisition of forward Dejan Joveljić from Sporting Kansas City, marking a significant addition to their roster. The transfer, which is a cash-for-player deal valued at $6 million, sees Joveljić join Seattle as a Designated Player. With an impressive total of 107 goals across all competitions and three league championships in his 11-year professional career, Joveljić brings a wealth of experience and a proven scoring ability to the Sounders.

Proven Track Record

The Serbian international has spent the last six seasons in Major League Soccer, where he netted 71 goals and provided 23 assists while playing for both Sporting Kansas City and the LA Galaxy. Notably, he played a crucial role in helping the Galaxy secure the 2024 MLS Cup. In the 2024-2025 season, Joveljić's 39 goals in regular-season and postseason matches placed him third in the league, trailing only Lionel Messi of Miami and Denis Bouanga of LAFC.

Excitement from the Sounders' Management

Sounders FC General Manager and Chief Soccer Officer Craig Waibel expressed enthusiasm about the signing, stating, “We’re thrilled to add a player of Dejan’s caliber to our group.” Waibel highlighted Joveljić's ability to perform in critical moments and his potential to contribute significantly to the team's future. Meanwhile, Head Coach Brian Schmetzer emphasized Joveljić's versatility and effectiveness in the attacking third, noting, “He’s dangerous in and around the box, can score in a variety of ways and gives us another dynamic presence.”

At 27 years old, Joveljić has signed a four-year contract with Sounders FC, which extends through June 2030, with an option for an additional year. His acquisition does not affect the club's international roster slots, as he holds a U.S. Green Card. To accommodate this new signing, midfielder Albert Rusnák has restructured his agreement with the club to maintain roster compliance.
