Veteran Socceroos forward Awer Mabil has made a significant return to the A-League, signing a three-year contract with Melbourne City. This move marks Mabil's homecoming to Australia after spending over a decade playing football abroad.

The 30-year-old Mabil, who previously starred for Adelaide United, has been playing overseas since leaving the Reds in 2015. His most recent stint was with Spanish club Castellon, where his impressive performances led to his recall to the Socceroos ahead of the World Cup. However, he spent the majority of his time in Europe at Danish club Midtjylland. Mabil boasts a wealth of experience, including appearances in the Champions League and Europa League, and has represented Australia in the last two World Cups, accumulating 39 caps and scoring 10 goals.

“After spending more than a decade playing in Europe, I’m really excited to be coming home to Australia and beginning this new journey with Melbourne City,” Mabil expressed. In a related move, Socceroos midfielder Jackson Irvine has transferred from FC St. Pauli, where he served as captain, to J1 League club Cerezo Osaka.
