Veteran Socceroos forward Awer Mabil has made a significant move to Melbourne City, signing a three-year contract with the A-League Men club. This transfer marks a notable addition to the team as they look to enhance their squad.

Experience Abroad

Mabil, who is 30 years old, has spent over a decade playing football overseas since leaving Adelaide United in 2015. His most recent stint was with Spanish club Castellón, where his performances helped him secure a spot back in the Socceroos squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup. Prior to Castellón, Mabil played primarily at Danish club FC Midtjylland, where he gained valuable experience, including appearances in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Return to Australia

Expressing his enthusiasm about returning to Australia, Mabil stated, “After spending more than a decade playing in Europe, I’m really excited to be coming home to Australia and beginning this new journey with Melbourne City.” He acknowledged the impressive progress of Melbourne City, highlighting the club's ambition and success as key factors in his decision to join. Mabil has also been a vital part of the Socceroos, contributing to their last two World Cup campaigns and mentoring younger players like Nestory Irankunda and Mohamed Toure.
