Socceroos head coach Tony Popovic has officially extended his contract, ensuring his position until the conclusion of the 2027 Asian Cup. This decision comes as Popovic prepares the national team for their opening match in the World Cup.

Currently in Canada, Popovic is gearing up for the Socceroos' first World Cup game against Türkiye, which is set to take place on Sunday morning, Australian time. The 2027 Asian Cup will be hosted in Saudi Arabia from January 7 to February 5, 2027, where Australia will compete in Group B alongside Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and North Korea.
