Sydney FC has secured the services of Urawa Red Diamonds captain Sekine Takahiro as a replacement for Joe Lolley in their A-League Men lineup. The announcement was made on Thursday, shortly after Lolley confirmed his transfer to Newcastle on a two-year contract.

New Signing Details

The 31-year-old Sekine, who has been a key player for one of Asia's premier clubs, has signed a three-year deal with the Sky Blues. Lolley's departure comes after a challenging final season with Sydney, which was marred by a serious ankle injury that limited his contributions. The 33-year-old winger played his last match as a substitute in the grand final, where Sydney lost 1-0 to Auckland FC, marking his 116th appearance for the club.

Experience and Versatility

With an impressive track record at Urawa, Sekine brings a wealth of experience to Sydney FC, having won multiple titles including the AFC Champions League twice (2017, 2022), the Emperor's Cup (2021), the Japanese Super Cup (2022), and the J-League Cup (2016). His familiarity with A-League competition, having faced Sydney and Western Sydney in AFC Champions League matches, adds to his readiness for the new challenge.
