Scotland striker Lawrence Shankland has realized his lifelong ambition by joining Rangers from Heart of Midlothian. The transfer, finalized for undisclosed terms, marks a significant move for the 30-year-old forward, who has signed a two-year contract with the option for an additional year at Ibrox.

Impressive Track Record at Hearts

During his time at Hearts, Shankland made a notable impact, netting 88 goals in 171 appearances over four seasons. He captained the team to a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership this past season, narrowly missing out on the title to Celtic on the final day of competition. Rangers finished third, trailing Hearts by eight points.

Although Shankland will miss the Champions League qualifiers with Hearts, he expressed his enthusiasm for the move, stating, "Rangers is my boyhood club and it has always been a dream to play here, so I was really keen to get it done." He aims to contribute significantly to the club's ambitions of winning silverware more consistently.

Rangers' New Signing

Shankland's journey to Rangers follows a previous link to the club last summer when he was out of contract at Hearts. After signing a three-year deal in late June, he went on to score 20 goals in 34 matches, including four against Rangers, as Hearts pursued their first title since 1960. His impressive scoring record has made him one of the most prolific strikers in recent Premiership history, with 72 goals since the start of the 2022-23 season.

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl praised Shankland's proven quality, leadership, and work ethic, emphasizing that his experience will be a valuable addition to the team. Rohl also noted Shankland's understanding of the expectations that come with playing for Rangers.

Following his transfer, Shankland will join the Scotland squad for the World Cup, with Rohl wishing him success in the tournament and looking forward to his return for pre-season training in Glasgow.
