Saint-Maximin joins Charlotte on designated player contract
Allan Saint-Maximin has joined Charlotte FC on a designated player contract, enhancing the team's offensive capabilities in Major League Soccer. His arrival is expected to make a significant impact on the club's performance.

Charlotte FC has strengthened its attacking options by signing Allan Saint-Maximin from Lens ahead of the MLS season's resumption. The club confirmed the acquisition on July 13, 2026, following Saint-Maximin's departure from the Ligue 1 side at the end of the previous season.
Contract Details and Player Background
Saint-Maximin has signed a three-year designated player contract with Charlotte, taking over the roster spot previously occupied by Wilfried Zaha. The 29-year-old forward arrives at Charlotte after contributing to Lens's successful campaign, where they finished second in Ligue 1 and secured the Coupe de France title. During his time at Lens, he made 13 appearances, netting four goals and providing three assists. Notably, he also recorded 21 dribbles, ranking him joint-fourth for the club despite joining in February.
Aiming for Legacy in Charlotte
Saint-Maximin expressed his ambition to leave a lasting impact at Charlotte. "The idea is to stay, not to stay only for three years," he stated. "I have a three-year contract, but if I can stay more, I really want to create a legacy here." He emphasized that the opportunity to become a legend at the club was a significant factor in his decision to join.
Charlotte FC currently sits sixth in the Eastern Conference after 15 matches in the 2026 MLS season, having scored 24 goals so far. General Manager Zoran Krneta expressed confidence in Saint-Maximin's ability to enhance the team's performance in the attacking third, highlighting his elite talent and experience from playing at the highest levels, including the Premier League. "Adding a player with his pedigree, experience, and winning mentality will bolster our attacking options and strengthen the team overall," Krneta remarked.
Charlotte will resume their MLS campaign on July 22, facing Atlanta United at the Bank of America Stadium.
