Teenage defender Lucas Herrington is poised for a significant transfer to Hull City in the English Premier League, which would mark a record-breaking move for an Australian player. The 18-year-old Socceroo has attracted attention from several European clubs, including renowned teams such as Barcelona and Liverpool, particularly following his impressive performances at the World Cup.

Transfer Details

While negotiations are ongoing between Hull City and MLS club Colorado Rapids, reports suggest that the transfer fee could range between AUD $35 million and $38 million. If finalized, this deal would surpass the previous Australian transfer record of $23 million set by Harry Souttar's transfer to Leicester City in 2023. Currently, Herrington would be the only Socceroo competing in the Premier League this season.

Hull City's Interest

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali confirmed the club's interest in Herrington during a recent interview with the BBC. He stated, "Yes. He's (got) very big potential. Very young boy. I think (a) future star. We are very close, very close." Ilicali also indicated that a decision regarding the transfer could be made within a week.

Herrington, whose contract with Colorado Rapids extends until 2029 with an option for an additional year, played a full match on Sunday, contributing to a 1-0 victory over Austin FC. This match could potentially be his last for the Rapids, as the team does not have another game until August 16.
