Record-breaking Newcastle Jets win men's A-League Premiership for first time - Friends of Football

The Newcastle Jets have achieved a historic milestone by winning the men's A-League Premiership for the first time. This victory highlights their impressive performance throughout the season.

The Newcastle Jets have achieved a historic milestone by winning their first-ever men’s A-League Premiers Plate, setting multiple club records in the process. Their position at the top of the Isuzu UTE A-League ladder was confirmed when Auckland FC fell to a 1-0 defeat against Central Coast Mariners, leaving the Jets four points clear with just one round remaining in the regular season.

Record-Breaking Season

Under the guidance of new coach Mark Milligan, the Jets have established impressive benchmarks, including their highest-ever position in the competition, a longest unbeaten run of 10 games, and an eight-game winning streak. This season, the Jets fielded the youngest squad in the league, and their top placement guarantees them a semi-final spot in the upcoming finals series.

Looking Ahead

This marks the Jets' first finals series appearance since they hosted the grand final in 2018. Winning the Premiership also secures them a place in the prestigious AFC Champions League Elite for the 2026-27 season, marking only their second participation in this continental competition since the 2008-09 season. Additionally, the Jets are in contention for a historic domestic treble after clinching the 2025 Australia Cup.

The Premier’s Plate will be awarded to the Jets following their final round match against Central Coast Mariners at McDonald Jones Stadium on April 25. A-Leagues CEO Steve Rosich praised the Jets for their captivating playing style and record-breaking season, expressing anticipation for their performance in the upcoming finals series, which begins the first weekend in May. The Jets will enjoy a bye in the first week before facing the lowest-ranked winner from the elimination finals in a two-legged semi-final.
