Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of striker Carlos Espi from Levante for a fee of €25 million (£21 million). The Spanish giants successfully outmaneuvered two Premier League clubs, Hull City and Brighton, to secure the 21-year-old forward's signature.

Espi's Impressive Season at Levante

Standing at 6ft 4in, Espi had a standout season with Levante, netting 13 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions. His arrival at Real Madrid follows the club's decision to sell Gonzalo Garcia to Fulham for €40 million (£34 million), which includes €2 million in add-ons and a 30% sell-on fee. Espi has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.

Transfer Dynamics and Premier League Interest

Despite earlier reports linking Espi with a move to Leeds United, sources indicated that the interest from Elland Road was never substantial and did not progress beyond initial observations. Brighton was more prominently linked as they sought a replacement for Danny Welbeck, who is expected to join Chelsea. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Hull City was also in contention for Espi, but once Real Madrid expressed their interest, the Premier League options were quickly sidelined.

Romano elaborated on the situation, stating, "Real Madrid have hijacked a move that looked destined for the Premier League," highlighting the swift actions taken by the club to secure Espi's services.
