The Central Coast Mariners have a new owner, but the future of their women's team remains uncertain. Total Soccer Growth Holdings (TSG), which is the majority shareholder of English club Queens Park Rangers, has acquired the men's A-League team and the club's academy, leaving the women's team without a buyer.

Ownership Transition

This change comes six months after the previous owner returned the club's license to the A-League governing body. While TSG's acquisition marks a new chapter for the men's side, the women's team was not included in the deal. Kory Babington, the head coach of the Mariners' women's team, was informed that his contract would not be renewed for the upcoming season. He expressed surprise at the ownership change and noted the ongoing challenges faced by the women's team.

"The A-League women come second to the men, so it's no surprise," Babington commented.

Future Prospects

Ruben Gnanalingam, TSG's majority shareholder, expressed his enthusiasm for entering the A-League, highlighting the potential for growth in Australian football. He emphasized a commitment to revitalizing the Central Coast Mariners and fostering local talent.

"We appreciate how turbulent and uncertain the last season has been for the club, and we intend to do our utmost to restore energy and enthusiasm for this special football club," Gnanalingam stated.

Meanwhile, the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) is actively seeking an investor for the women's team. APL chief executive Steve Rosich noted that the operational aspects of the women's team could not be integrated into TSG's new ownership structure, prompting the ongoing search for a suitable buyer.
