Melbourne Victory advanced to the Quarter-Finals of the Hahn Australia Cup after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night, thanks to the outstanding performance of goalkeeper Jack Duncan.

Duncan's Heroics

Duncan emerged as the standout player, making three crucial saves during the penalty shootout. He had already showcased his skills in regular time, denying a goal-bound attempt from Aydan Hammond. The match, held at Marconi Stadium, intensified in extra time when substitute Harrison Sawyer put Victory ahead in the 97th minute. However, Nicolas Milanovic equalized for the Wanderers with a stunning free kick, forcing the match into penalties.

Decisive Penalty Shootout

The shootout began with both teams converting their initial penalties, with Milanovic and Brandon Borrello scoring for Western Sydney, while Louis D’Arrigo and Sawyer found the net for Victory. The tension escalated as Duncan stepped up to deny Dylan Scicluna and Awan Lual, keeping Victory's hopes alive. Although Mikey Ghossaini scored for Victory, Duncan's third save against Alexander Gersbach sealed the win for his team.

With this victory, Melbourne Victory will face the winner of the upcoming match between APIA Leichhardt and Sydney United 58 in the Quarter-Finals, scheduled for August 12 at 7:30pm AEST.
