Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has disclosed that Victor Osimhen significantly influenced French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu's decision to join the Turkish club. According to reports from Soccernet.ng, Buruk shared insights during an appearance on Tivibu Spor, highlighting that Osimhen personally contacted Ugochukwu prior to the completion of the transfer.

Osimhen's Influence in Ugochukwu's Transfer

Buruk noted that Osimhen and Ugochukwu engaged in a phone conversation, and the forward also had two FaceTime discussions with Buruk himself. These interactions took place before Ugochukwu's transfer from Burnley to Galatasaray was finalized. The deal involves a season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy, totaling just under €30 million (£25.5 million). Initially, Galatasaray will pay a loan fee of £3 million (€3.5 million) for the 2026/27 season, with a purchase clause of £22.5 million (€26.5 million) that becomes mandatory if Ugochukwu makes 25 official appearances during the season.

Ugochukwu's Background and Future Prospects

The 22-year-old midfielder, who previously played for Chelsea, has agreed to a net annual salary of £2.25 million (€2.65 million). Ugochukwu joins Galatasaray following Burnley's relegation from the Premier League, despite having a productive season where he made 35 league appearances, scoring three goals and providing two assists. Although he currently plays for France at the Under-21 level, he remains eligible for Nigeria's Super Eagles due to his family background. His move to Galatasaray means he will be teammates with Osimhen as the club aims to defend its Turkish Super Lig title and compete in the UEFA Champions League.

Buruk also indicated that Galatasaray's transfer activities are ongoing, stating, “We will sign two players for the attacking line. Right now, we are focused on signing a number 10.” He emphasized the club's intention to recruit elite players, acknowledging that such transfers require time and financial investment. With Mauro Icardi's departure opening a spot in the foreign player quota, Buruk confirmed that their transfer efforts will continue according to a predetermined list.
