NRL 2026: Titans, Taste of maroon gives Titans added energy for Storm showdown | Titans
The Titans are fueled by their maroon roots as they gear up for an important match against the Storm. This connection adds a new level of energy and motivation for the team.

As the Gold Coast Titans gear up for their upcoming clash against the Melbourne Storm, coach Josh Hannay is optimistic that the experience gained from last Thursday's Origin camp will invigorate his young squad. The Titans had the opportunity to train at Camp Maroon on the Sunshine Coast, and Hannay believes this experience will serve as a significant boost during their bye week.
Boost from Camp Maroon
Hannay expressed gratitude for the invitation from Billy Slater and the Queensland Rugby League (QRL) to participate in the camp. He noted that several promising Queensland players, including Cooper Bai and Bodhi Sharpley, have benefitted from the training sessions. "It's a privilege for us to be here and get the invite from Billy and the QRL to come up," Hannay stated. The Titans' training at Camp Maroon marks a milestone, as it is the first time they have had the chance to engage fully with the Maroons' preparations, rather than just sending players to participate.
Young Talent on the Rise
Among the young talents, Jojo Fifita and Jayden Campbell were invited to the camp last year, with Fifita now set to play in his third Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium. Hannay highlighted the potential of Cooper Bai, who is also on the verge of selection for the Maroons. "For Cooper, the world is at his feet," he remarked, emphasizing Bai's dedication to earning a spot in the prestigious Maroons jersey. At just 19 years old, Bai is eager to soak up the experience of being in Camp Maroon, which Hannay believes is invaluable for the development of young players.
Support for Slater
Hannay's time at the camp also allowed him to reconnect with former Queensland teammates, having spent the last four years as an assistant coach for the Maroons. He voiced his support for Billy Slater to continue as head coach, despite speculation surrounding Slater's future following his decision to work on a year-by-year basis. "Selfishly, I do hope Billy remains on as Maroons coach," Hannay said, praising Slater's impact on the program and the culture he has fostered. He acknowledged that while Slater values his life balance, he also thrives on challenges, and whatever decision he makes will be well-considered.
As the Titans prepare for their match against the Storm, the energy and insights gained from Camp Maroon could prove crucial in their performance. The blend of youthful talent and experienced guidance positions the Titans for a promising showdown this Sunday.
