Werder Bremen has officially announced the return of striker Niclas Füllkrug from West Ham United on a one-year loan deal. This marks Füllkrug's third stint at the Weserstadion, where he previously enjoyed significant success.

Füllkrug's Impact at Bremen

During his earlier spells with Werder Bremen, Füllkrug scored 49 goals in 124 competitive matches, playing a crucial role in the club's promotion back to the Bundesliga in 2022. The 33-year-old expressed his excitement about rejoining the club, stating, “I’ve never made a secret of the fact that Werder is a very special club for me. It was important to me to play for Werder again. The talks with the club officials were good. I’m really looking forward to playing for Bremen in the Bundesliga.”

Club Officials' Enthusiasm

Peter Niemeyer, Werder’s head of professional football, shared his satisfaction with the transfer, highlighting Füllkrug's commitment to the club. “We’re very happy that we were able to complete Niclas’ transfer. He has shown a clear commitment to Werder. He knows the Bundesliga and will be an immediate boost for us,” Niemeyer remarked. Head coach Daniel Thioune also praised the striker, noting his physical strength, aerial ability, and technical skills, stating, “Niclas is a classic striker... He will definitely enrich our game.” Thioune added that Füllkrug's familiarity with the club and its players would help him settle in quickly.

Füllkrug arrives back in Germany after a notable career, having scored 103 goals in 292 appearances across the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, including stints at Nuremberg and Hannover. He also made a significant impact on the international stage, netting 14 goals in 24 appearances for the German national team, including participation in the FIFA World Cup 2022 and the European Championship.

As Werder Bremen prepares for the upcoming season, they will kick off their campaign away to LSK Hansa in the first round of the DFB Cup on August 22, followed by their opening Bundesliga match against Freiburg a week later.
