Newcastle United has officially signed defender Amar Dedic from Benfica for approximately £30 million. The 24-year-old has committed to a five-year contract after successfully completing a medical examination on Tyneside earlier this week.

This transfer marks a reunion for Dedic and manager Matthias Jaissle, with whom he previously won the Austrian title at Red Bull Salzburg in 2023. Expressing his enthusiasm about the move, Dedic stated, "It's a special feeling and a really big honour for me to join Newcastle United." Newcastle has been actively seeking a new right-back following the departure of veteran Kieran Trippier, who joined Wolves on a free transfer this summer. Dedic may be called upon to play in the season opener against Liverpool, especially as Tino Livramento is still recovering from a calf injury sustained while on international duty with England. Jaissle expressed his anticipation for Dedic’s contributions, noting, "He will bring both defensive and attacking qualities to our squad."
