Newcastle Jets sign Zane Schreiber ahead of ACL Elite campaign
Newcastle Jets have secured the signing of Zane Schreiber ahead of their ACL Elite campaign, enhancing their roster for the upcoming season.

Newcastle Jets have bolstered their squad for the upcoming 2026-27 Isuzu UTE A-League season with the acquisition of Zane Schreiber, a former midfielder for Melbourne City. The 21-year-old joins the Jets as a free agent following his departure from Melbourne City at the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign.
Schreiber's Experience and Impact
During his three-year tenure with Melbourne City, Schreiber made a total of 62 appearances, including 23 in the last A-Leagues season under coach Aurelio Vidmar. He was part of the City squad that won the Isuzu UTE A-League Championship in the 2024-25 season and also contributed to the team during last season's ACL Elite campaign.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Schreiber stated, “I’m excited to get started, watching the Jets last season really impressed me. As soon as I got the call, it was impossible to turn down the opportunity to play for this great club. I can’t wait to get to work and make history with the club domestically and in Asia.”
Strategic Signings for the Jets
Jets head coach Mark Milligan has acted swiftly in the transfer market, especially after losing key players such as Clayton Taylor, Lachie Rose, and Lachlan Bayliss from last season's Premiership-winning squad. Schreiber's signing follows that of Greek striker Nikos Vergos, who joined from Melbourne Victory, marking him as the second addition of the off-season.
We are excited to bring Zane on board,” Milligan remarked. “For a young man he has already had some fantastic experiences in the game both locally and internationally through the Asian Champions League. We see a lot of potential in Zane and think he will thrive in the environment and add to a strong midfield unit.”
In addition to new signings, the Jets are also focusing on securing the futures of their promising young talents, with Jordan Baylis, Oliver Cockle, and Alex Nunes all signing new contracts.
