Newcastle Jets have officially signed striker Patrick Wood on a two-year deal, enhancing their squad ahead of the new season.

Newcastle Jets have secured the signing of striker Patrick Wood on a two-year contract that will extend until the end of the 2027-28 season. The former Sydney FC forward is set to bolster the Jets' attacking options as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.
Wood's Background and Experience
Patrick Wood, an academy graduate from Sydney FC, recently left the Sky Blues seeking fresh challenges. During his time at Sydney FC, he made 119 appearances and also enjoyed a six-month loan spell at Perth Glory, another club in the Isuzu UTE A-League. Notably, Wood played a crucial role in Sydney FC's triumph in the 2023 Australia Cup, netting four goals in five matches throughout the tournament.
Excitement and Ambition
Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Wood stated, “I’m incredibly excited to have signed with the Newcastle Jets. This is a massive opportunity for me, and I’m proud to be joining such a respected club with a strong history and passionate supporters.” He also mentioned his eagerness to reunite with teammate Max Burgess, adding, “I’m a hungry striker with huge ambitions both with the team and on a personal level. See you all soon!”
Newcastle Jets head coach Mark Milligan shared his excitement about the acquisition, highlighting Wood's work ethic and versatility. “We are really excited to get Patrick on board. He is a hard-working player that can play across the forward line, and he has experience in the league and in the Asian Champions League,” Milligan remarked. He concluded by stating, “Patrick is a fantastic addition to the squad.”
Wood's last contribution for Sydney FC was a decisive goal in the 2025-26 Final Series, where he scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Melbourne Victory in the Elimination Final. As he joins Newcastle Jets, fans will be eager to see how his skills translate to his new team.
