Newcastle Jets have strengthened their defensive lineup for the upcoming 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League season by signing experienced centre-back Alex Grant to a one-year contract after his departure from Sydney FC.

Grant's Experience and Background

The 32-year-old defender joins the Jets following a season with Sydney FC, where he made 31 appearances across all competitions and played a significant role in the team’s journey to the AFC Champions League Two semi-finals. Before his time at Sydney, Grant had stints with Perth Glory, Tianjin Jinmen Tiger in the Chinese Super League, and Pohang Steelers in South Korea.

Newcastle Jets Head Coach Mark Milligan expressed confidence in Grant's ability to enhance the team's performance, stating, “Alex brings balance and experience to the back line. He is no stranger to success and we look forward to what he brings to the squad.” Grant himself is eager to embark on this new chapter, saying, “I’m delighted to be joining the Jets.
