Newcastle Jets face mass exodus after historic A-League season | Newcastle Herald | Newcastle, NSW
The Newcastle Jets are bracing for a significant turnover of players after an unprecedented A-League season, which could impact their future competitiveness.

The Newcastle Jets are bracing for significant changes following a remarkable A-League season, which saw the team clinch both the Australia Cup and the Premiers' Plate for the first time in their history. Despite coming close to a grand final appearance for the first time in eight years, the Jets have confirmed the departure of several key players.
Confirmed Departures
On Thursday, the Jets announced the exit of several prominent figures, including leading scorer Clayton Taylor, who was instrumental in the team's success this season. Other notable departures include centre-back Mark Natta, Japanese international Kota Mizunuma, and attacking players Lachie Bayliss and Ben Gibson. Additionally, home-grown goalkeeper Noah James, along with rising talents Lucas Scicluna, Ben van Dorssen, and Christian Bracco, will also be leaving the club.
Striker Lachie Rose's transfer to Dundee United on a two-year deal was previously confirmed, adding to the list of departures. Taylor, who had a slow start to the season due to groin surgery, finished strong with nine goals, earning him the Jets' golden boot and a nomination for the A-Leagues young player of the year. Over his three seasons with the Jets, the 22-year-old made 79 appearances and scored 24 goals, also receiving a call-up to the Australian under-23 side.
Impact of Departures
Mark Natta, who joined the Jets in 2022, made 97 appearances and is reportedly linked with a move to Italy. Kota Mizunuma, who became a fan favorite after joining from Yokohama F. Marinos last season, will also be missed. Lachie Bayliss, who excelled under coach Mark Milligan, recently made his international debut for New Zealand against Finland. Noah James, a product of the Jets academy, made his A-League debut in 2020 and has appeared eight times for the club.
With the departures of these key players, the Jets face a pivotal off-season as they look to rebuild and maintain the momentum gained from their historic campaign.
