CF Montréal has officially signed Chilean forward Alexis Sánchez to a Designated Player contract, as announced by the club on Tuesday. The 37-year-old player joins Montréal after a stint with LaLiga's Sevilla, where he netted four goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.

Contract Details and Expectations

Sánchez's contract with Montréal will extend through May 2027, covering the current MLS season and the upcoming sprint season in the first half of 2027. The club also holds a one-year option for the 2027-28 season, which will mark the first under the modified league calendar.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the move, Sánchez stated, "I am very happy to join CF Montréal and take on this new challenge. I'm grateful to the Club for the confidence they've shown in me and I'm eager to put my experience to work so that we can reach our objectives and create memorable moments for our supporters." He emphasized his commitment to giving his all for both the club and the city.

A Stellar Career in Europe

This transfer marks the conclusion of Sánchez's 18-year career in European football, during which he played for prestigious clubs such as River Plate, Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Internazionale. Throughout his career, he has won six league titles and 11 cup trophies. Starting his journey in Chile with Cobreloa in 2005, Sánchez has made over 800 club appearances and scored more than 200 goals.

International Accomplishments

On the international stage, Sánchez has been a key player for Chile, leading the national team to two Copa América titles in 2015 and 2016, both victories coming against Argentina and Lionel Messi. He was awarded the Golden Ball as the best player of the latter tournament. Sánchez also holds the records for the most goals scored (51) and the most appearances (168) for the Chilean national team.

Currently, CF Montréal is positioned second-to-last in the MLS Eastern Conference, with 16 points from 18 matches. The team’s next fixture is set for August 15, where they will host DC United.
