Brisbane Roar have bolstered their attacking options for the upcoming season by signing Moldovan international striker Virgiliu Postolachi on a two-year contract. The 26-year-old joins the Roar from Universitatea Cluj in Romania, bringing significant international experience with 37 caps for Moldova.

Postolachi's Journey to Brisbane

Originally from Edineț, Moldova, Postolachi relocated to France as a child and joined the Paris Saint-Germain academy in 2013. During his time at PSG, he celebrated success by winning consecutive French under-17 championships, notably scoring twice in the 2017 final against Monaco. He signed his first professional contract with PSG in July 2018.

Postolachi's career has seen him play for various clubs across Europe, including Lille and Grenoble in France, Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium, and Vendsyssel FF in Denmark, before his stint in Romania. He achieved success in the Romanian SuperLiga, winning the Cupa României with CFR Cluj before transferring to Universitatea Cluj in September 2025.

Roar's Ambitions for the New Season

Brisbane Roar Sporting Director James Gow expressed confidence in Postolachi's ability to enhance the team's attack. He stated, “Virgiliu’s signing brings the team a striker who can play with his back to goal, wins the ball in the air, and gives us a way of attacking heading into the season.” Gow believes Postolachi's European experience will be vital as the Roar aim to improve upon their disappointing finish in the 2025/26 season.

Postolachi himself is eager for the challenge ahead, stating, “I’m excited to be joining Brisbane Roar and for the new challenge of playing in Australia. I’m hungry and ready to give my all for the club and its fans who look forward to meeting very soon.” He is currently traveling to Indonesia to join his new teammates for the pre-season tour.

As Brisbane Roar prepares for the 2026/27 season, Postolachi is expected to be a key figure in their attack, alongside new signings such as former South Korean playmaker Nam Tae-hee and German forward Marko Ilic. The club is also welcoming former Sydney FC and Socceroos defender Joel King, ex-Central Coast Mariners player Sabit Ngor, and former captain Tom Aldred as they look to revamp their squad.
