Champions League Qualifiers Underway

For those eager for elite European competition, the Champions League has already begun, albeit quietly. The first of four qualifying rounds for the 2026-27 league phase has been completed, featuring champions from some of Europe’s lesser-known leagues. Notable teams such as Kairat of Kazakhstan and Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia have advanced to the second qualifying round, with matches scheduled for July 21, 22, and the following week on July 28, 29. Fenerbahçe and Red Star Belgrade will also enter the competition during this phase.

Path to the League Phase

As the qualifying rounds progress, clubs like Lyon, Bodø/Glimt, and Olympiacos will begin their campaigns in the third qualifying round, while Celtic and AEK Athens will enter at the playoff stage, just before the league phase. A total of seven Champions League spots are available through these qualifying rounds, with the final qualifiers set to be determined on Wednesday, August 26. The draw for the league phase will follow on Thursday, August 27.
