Melbourne City has strengthened its goalkeeping options ahead of the 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League season by signing Macklin Freke on a two-year contract. The experienced goalkeeper joins City after leaving Brisbane Roar, where he made 75 appearances during his tenure.

Freke's Journey and Achievements

The 27-year-old Freke, who came through the ranks at Brisbane Roar, established himself as the club's first-choice goalkeeper. His impressive performance during the 2024/25 season earned him the Player of the Year award, highlighting his significant contributions to the team.

Following a decade with the Roar, Freke expressed enthusiasm about joining Melbourne City. “Melbourne City has built a strong reputation over a number of years, and you can see how many players have improved and enjoyed success here,” he stated. As City prepares for its opening match of the 2026/27 season against Weston Bears FC in the Australia Cup Round of 32, Freke is expected to be included in the squad.
