Melbourne City sign Emiliano Marcondes from Norwich City

Melbourne City has secured the signing of Emiliano Marcondes from Norwich City. The talented midfielder is expected to bolster the team's performance in the new season.

Melbourne City has made a significant addition to their midfield by signing Danish player Emiliano Marcondes for the upcoming 2026/27 season. The 31-year-old joins the club from Norwich City, where he played in the English Championship, bringing with him over 300 senior appearances from his time in both Denmark and England.

Marcondes' Career Journey

Emiliano Marcondes began his career at FC Nordsjælland, where he made 131 first-team appearances and scored 42 goals. In 2018, he transitioned to England, where he played for clubs including Brentford, Bournemouth, and Norwich, accumulating more than 150 appearances in the Championship. One of his notable achievements was scoring in the Championship Play-Off Final in 2021, helping Brentford secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 74 years.

Excitement for New Challenge

Upon his arrival in Melbourne, Marcondes expressed his enthusiasm for joining the club. “I’m really happy to be joining Melbourne City and excited for this new challenge in Australia,” he stated. He highlighted the positive reputation of the club and its playing style, noting that his initial impressions have only reinforced his excitement. Marcondes emphasized his preference for teams that control the ball and play positively, indicating his eagerness to contribute to the club's success.

Michael Petrillo, Melbourne City’s Director of Football, shared his optimism about the signing, stating that Marcondes’ experience and creativity would enhance the club’s attacking options. “We’re delighted to welcome Emiliano to Melbourne City,” Petrillo remarked, noting the midfielder's extensive experience in structured, possession-based teams. The addition of Marcondes follows the recent signing of Socceroo Awer Mabil from CD Castellon, further strengthening Melbourne City's roster ahead of the new season.
