Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson, finalizing a £35 million (40.5 million euros) transfer deal. The 26-year-old is set to sign a four-year contract with the option for an additional year.

Transfer Details and Medical

Ederson has yet to undergo a medical examination, but sources indicate that the transfer is expected to be finalized in early July, just ahead of United's pre-season training. This move marks the first signing for Manchester United since Michael Carrick was appointed as the permanent head coach last month. Additionally, the deal includes potential add-ons amounting to £3.9 million (€4.5 million).

Midfield Reinforcements

This acquisition is part of a broader strategy to bolster the midfield, particularly following the departure of Ederson's fellow Brazilian, Casemiro, whose contract concludes at the end of the month. Ederson, who has earned three caps for Brazil, was included in the country's 55-man World Cup squad but did not make the final cut. United are also exploring other midfield options, including West Ham's Mateus Fernandes and England's Elliot Anderson, although the latter has expressed a preference for a move to Manchester City.

In addition to strengthening their midfield, Manchester United are looking to add a left-sided player, with Newcastle's Lewis Hall being considered, and are also seeking support for striker Benjamin Sesko. The club is currently evaluating its goalkeeping situation, which may involve Radek Vitek, who had a successful loan spell at Bristol City. Meanwhile, former first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana has reportedly been informed that he can seek a new club, although his high wage demands may complicate matters.
