Luka Vuskovic: Brighton sign Croatia defender from Tottenham for club record £46m - BBC Sport
Brighton has made a significant move in the transfer market by signing Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham for a record £46 million. This acquisition aims to strengthen their defensive lineup.

Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the signing of Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur for a club record fee of £46 million. The 19-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the option for an additional year. This transfer marks a significant investment for Brighton, as Vuskovic's fee could potentially increase to £50 million with add-ons.
Vuskovic's Journey to Brighton
Vuskovic joined Tottenham in 2025 from Hajduk Split, having agreed to the move two years prior. Shortly after his arrival at Spurs, he was loaned to Hamburg, where he had a productive season, making 30 appearances and scoring six goals in the Bundesliga. His performances in Germany earned him recognition, culminating in being named Rookie of the Season and securing a place in the Bundesliga's Team of the Year.
Brighton’s Ambitions
Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler expressed confidence in Vuskovic's potential, stating that the club has closely monitored his development. "Last season he demonstrated he can play at a very high level and we want to help him build on that within our environment," Hurzeler noted. He acknowledged the challenges Vuskovic may face as he adjusts to the Premier League but remains optimistic about the young defender's ability to thrive.
Vuskovic, who has six senior caps and one goal for Croatia, made his World Cup debut against England during the tournament's group stages last month. He will be stepping into the squad to fill the void left by Jan Paul van Hecke, who has transferred to Tottenham for £52 million.
Brighton will kick off their new Premier League season against Aston Villa at home on Sunday, 23 August at 14:00 BST.
