Leeds United confirm transfer arrival of Tarik Muharemovic as bumper deal agreed | Leeds Live
Leeds United has confirmed the arrival of Tarik Muharemovic following a substantial transfer agreement. The club aims to enhance its roster with this key addition.

Leeds United have officially announced the signing of Tarik Muharemovic, marking him as their second acquisition of the transfer window. The centre-back joins from Italian club Sassuolo for a reported fee of approximately £34 million, making him the most expensive signing during the 49ers Enterprises era.
Details of the Transfer
The 23-year-old defender completed his medical on Friday and has signed a five-year contract at Elland Road. The Bosnia & Herzegovina international stands at 6ft 4in and has attracted interest from several clubs, including Newcastle United, Bournemouth, and Sunderland. However, Leeds successfully met Sassuolo’s asking price, which was elevated due to a clause that entitled Juventus to 50% of the sale proceeds.
Sassuolo's Perspective
Sassuolo expressed satisfaction with the transfer fee, which represents a club record sale and a significant profit from the £1.7 million they paid for Muharemovic just last summer. Despite the financial gain, the club acknowledged the loss of a talented player, recognizing that his departure was anticipated this window.
During his international career, Muharemovic has earned 17 caps for Bosnia, including participation in the World Cup. He is noted for being the player fouled by USA striker Florian Balogun, which led to a controversial red card incident. His arrival at Leeds is seen as a direct replacement for Pascal Struijk, who recently transferred to Brighton & Hove Albion for £18 million. Struijk had opted for a new challenge despite being offered a lucrative contract extension.
Leeds United's strategy this summer has been influenced by their unexpected 14th-place finish in the Premier League and a strong FA Cup run, which allowed them to navigate their spending limits effectively. With Struijk's departure, the club was able to pursue Muharemovic, who played consistently in a back four last season. His signing follows that of Harry Wilson, Leeds' first signing of the summer.
In addition to the Muharemovic deal, Leeds are reportedly in discussions with Southampton regarding Shea Charles and are exploring a potential deal for Julian Brandt, a former Germany international who is now a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund.
