Lee Kang-in on verge of Spain return with Atletico Madrid switch - The Korea Times
Lee Kang-in is poised to make a return to Spain as he approaches a transfer to Atletico Madrid. This move represents a pivotal moment in his professional journey.

Korean international Lee Kang-in is on the brink of a transfer to Atletico Madrid, with personal terms reportedly agreed upon. The final details between Atletico and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are now the only hurdles remaining before the move is confirmed.
Transfer Details and Financials
According to Spanish daily Marca, Atletico Madrid is actively finalizing negotiations for its initial signings ahead of the upcoming season, with Lee and Alejandro Grimaldo identified as key targets. The anticipated transfer fee for Lee is around 35 million euros (approximately $41 million), which may increase with performance-related bonuses. Combined with Grimaldo's expected fee of 20 million euros, Atletico is set to invest around 55 million euros in these two signings.
Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has also indicated that discussions regarding Lee's transfer have progressed significantly, with Atletico having advanced talks with PSG after reaching an agreement with the player's representatives earlier. PSG is reportedly looking to sign Monaco midfielder Maghnes Akliouche as a replacement for Lee.
Contract and Role at Atletico
Negotiations for a five-year contract between Lee and Atletico are reportedly going well, with the deal expected to keep him at the club until 2031 once the transfer fee and contract details are finalized. Atletico views Lee as a valuable addition following Antoine Griezmann's departure, aiming to enhance their squad with a versatile attacker capable of playing across various positions, including both the frontline and midfield.
While Lee is not seen as a direct replacement for Griezmann, Marca emphasizes his importance in Atletico's rebuilding strategy. Known for his ability to cut inside from the right wing and dictate play through his passing and ball control, Lee can also function as an attacking midfielder or second striker when necessary.
