Rangers have finalized a deal to acquire Lawrence Shankland, the captain of Hearts, in a move aimed at strengthening their team for the new season.

Rangers have reached an agreement to sign Lawrence Shankland, the captain of Hearts, pending a medical examination. The striker is anticipated to sign an initial two-year contract that will run until the summer of 2028, with an option to extend for an additional year. Rangers are keen to finalize the deal before Shankland departs for the World Cup with Scotland.
Shankland's Performance at Hearts
Last season, Shankland was instrumental for Hearts, scoring 20 goals, including 16 in the Scottish Premiership. His contributions helped secure a place for Hearts in the Champions League qualifying rounds, despite the team finishing second behind Celtic. The striker's impressive performance came as Hearts narrowly missed out on a historic league title on the final day of the season.
A Journey to Rangers
Shankland, who has been a lifelong fan of Rangers, began his professional career at Queen's Park, where he played alongside Andy Robertson. After a stint at Aberdeen that included loan spells at Dunfermline, St Mirren, and Morton, he made a significant impact after joining Ayr United in 2017. There, he scored 29 goals in his first season, followed by 34 goals in the next, which led to a transfer to Dundee United. At Dundee, he played a crucial role in their promotion back to the top flight, netting 28 goals in his first season.
Having joined Hearts from Belgian club Beerschot in 2022, Shankland has accumulated 88 goals in 171 appearances over the past four seasons. His move to Rangers marks a significant step in his career as he prepares to take on new challenges in Glasgow.
