The LA Galaxy have officially signed winger Hirving "Chucky" Lozano from San Diego FC in a significant transfer deal, as announced by both clubs on Friday. The Mexican international will join the Galaxy on loan until December 2026, with the option for a permanent transfer. Lozano will take up a Designated Player roster spot within the team.

Lozano's Journey to LA Galaxy

Lozano has not participated in the current 2026 season, as San Diego FC's head coach Mikey Varas and sporting director Tyler Heaps indicated that he was not part of the club's plans for their second MLS season. Now, he will bolster the Galaxy's attacking lineup, which already includes notable players such as Joseph Paintsil, Marco Reus, and João Klauss. Recently, the Galaxy transferred Gabriel Pec to Brazilian club Cruzeiro for a record fee.

General Manager's Comments

“Hirving is a player whom we tried to acquire three years ago, so this feels like something of a full-circle moment. He is a fierce competitor with an excellent track record of performing on teams that have competed for titles in multiple leagues, including his debut season in MLS," said LA general manager Will Kuntz. “As we evaluated opportunities to strengthen our roster for the stretch run of the season, it became clear that Hirving was the right player for the moment we are in as a club. We have a talented group, a strong locker room, and a clear objective over these final 15 games of the season, and we are thrilled that Hirving and his family are joining the Galaxy.”

During his time with San Diego FC, Lozano made a significant impact, contributing to the club's record-setting inaugural season in 2025, where they achieved 63 points and 19 wins, ultimately reaching the Western Conference Final. He recorded 11 goals and 11 assists in 31 matches across both the regular season and the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

Prior to his stint in Southern California, Lozano played for top clubs including PSV Eindhoven, Napoli, and Pachuca, amassing 135 goals and 85 assists in 462 matches throughout his career. On the international stage, he has scored 18 goals in 75 appearances for Mexico and participated in both the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.
