Jakub Kiwior joins FC Porto from Arsenal permanently | OneFootball

Jakub Kiwior has made a permanent move to FC Porto from Arsenal. The young defender is set to bring his talents to the Portuguese league.

FC Porto has officially confirmed the permanent signing of Polish defender Jakub Kiwior from Arsenal. The announcement was made on May 6, 2026, marking a significant move for both the player and the Portuguese club.

Kiwior's Journey to Porto

The 26-year-old Kiwior joined Arsenal from Spezia in January 2023, where he made a total of 68 appearances for the Gunners. However, he faced challenges in securing a regular spot in the starting lineup under manager Mikel Arteta. This led to his loan move to Porto last summer, which included an obligation for a permanent transfer.

Success in Portugal

During his time at Porto, Kiwior has made 38 appearances across all competitions, playing a pivotal role in the team’s recent success. He was instrumental in helping Porto clinch the Primeira Liga title last week, having started in all 25 league matches he participated in. The club has exercised the option to buy Kiwior, finalizing a deal worth €17 million (£15 million), with potential add-ons of up to €5 million.

In addition, Arsenal will receive €2 million from any future sale of Kiwior, who has a release clause of €70 million in his new contract. Kiwior expressed satisfaction with his decision to join Porto, especially after contributing to their first title win since 2022.

Arsenal's Future Plans

Meanwhile, Arsenal is also focused on their ambitions for the current season, as they aim for both the Premier League and Champions League titles. They recently secured a spot in the Champions League final after defeating Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals. Following Kiwior's departure, Arsenal has brought in defenders Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera, who have been vital to the team's performance this season. As the summer transfer window approaches, further changes to the squad are expected as Arteta seeks to enhance the team for future challenges.
