Jürgen Klopp has been appointed as the new head coach of the German national team, as confirmed by the German Football Association (DFB). This decision follows the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann after Germany's unexpected exit in the round of 32 at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Contract Details

The 59-year-old Klopp has signed a four-year contract that will commence on 15 August 2026 and extend through to 2030. In his first statement as head coach, Klopp expressed the significance of the role, stating, "The national team can unite us Germans better than anything else. That's what makes this role so special for me."

Klopp's Coaching Journey

Before taking on this national role, Klopp had a successful tenure at Liverpool, which he left in May 2024. Following his departure, he joined Red Bull GmbH as Head of Global Soccer in January 2025, where he managed the company's international club network, including Bundesliga team RB Leipzig. Klopp's coaching career is marked by numerous achievements, including leading Mainz to their first Bundesliga promotion in 2004, securing back-to-back Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and 2012, and winning the Champions League with Liverpool in 2019.

Klopp's appointment comes at a crucial time for the German national team, which has not secured a major trophy since winning the World Cup in 2014. DFB president Bernd Neuendorf praised Klopp, saying, "Jürgen Klopp, like few others, embodies passion, credibility and the ability to inspire people. He was our first choice for the role."
