Issa Doumbia has officially signed with Sporting CP, marking a significant addition to the team's roster. The club looks forward to his contributions in the upcoming season.

Sporting CP has officially announced the signing of midfielder Issa Doumbia as part of their plans for the 2026/27 season. The 22-year-old has committed to the club until 2031, with an impressive buyout clause set at 80 million euros.

Doumbia's Journey to Sporting CP

Doumbia traveled to Lisbon on Tuesday to finalize the agreement, describing this move as "the most important step" in his career. His arrival was notably marked by a presentation video featuring him riding a traditional Vespa from Italy. Expressing his excitement, Doumbia stated, "It's a unique feeling and I'm very happy. Joining Sporting CP is the best path for my career. This is the best club to help me evolve."

Born in Treviglio, Lombardy, Doumbia began his football journey in the youth system of US Ciserano before making his professional debut at UC AlbinoLeffe in Serie C at the age of 18. His subsequent transfer to Venezia FC saw him make his Serie A debut, where he played 25 matches in his first season. In his second season, he became a pivotal player, contributing to Venezia FC's promotion back to Serie A by making 38 appearances, scoring ten goals, and providing two assists, ultimately helping the team secure the Serie B title.

International Experience and Playing Style

Doumbia has also represented his country at the youth level, regularly featuring for the Under-21s, including participation in the European Championships in 2025. Known for his versatility in midfield, he aims to leverage these skills at Sporting CP. He described his playing style as "physical, technical, intense, fast and agile," and drew inspiration from Paul Pogba, stating, "I will try to evolve and become even better."

With aspirations to compete in top European competitions, Doumbia emphasized the significance of this opportunity, saying, "It's a dream to play in the UEFA Champions League and I hope to be able to achieve it as soon as possible."
