Iran departs Türkiye for World Cup base in Mexico amid US visa issues
Iran's national football team has left Türkiye to set up their World Cup base in Mexico. The team is currently dealing with complications regarding US visa applications.
Iran's national football team has left Türkiye for its World Cup base in Mexico following a 15-day training camp in Antalya. The departure took place on Saturday afternoon, with the team set to arrive in Tijuana after an estimated 20-hour journey. However, issues regarding US visas for some administrative staff remain unresolved, as reported by Iran's state broadcaster IRIB.
Visa Challenges for Administrative Staff
While all players and coaching staff have successfully obtained US visas, 15 members of the administrative and management staff are still waiting for their entry permits. The Iranian Football Federation and FIFA are actively working to resolve these visa issues, and further efforts are expected to continue once the team arrives in Mexico.
Preparation for the Tournament
The visa situation has become a significant concern for Iran as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Although Iran will be based in Tijuana, all three of its Group G matches are scheduled to take place in the United States. The team has been training in Antalya since May 19 as part of its final preparations for the tournament.
As the World Cup approaches, the Iranian delegation remains focused on addressing the visa challenges while ensuring that all players and coaching staff are ready for their upcoming matches.
