Ipswich Town sign Abdoul Ouattara for £17m from Strasbourg | Ipswich Star
Ipswich Town has secured the signing of Abdoul Ouattara for £17 million from Strasbourg. This move aims to strengthen their team as they prepare for the new season.

Ipswich Town has officially secured the signing of Abdoul Ouattara from French club Strasbourg for a fee reported to be around £17 million, with potential add-ons that could bring the total to £21.3 million. The 20-year-old Ivorian has signed a five-year contract and is the first of two players expected to join the club under former Strasbourg manager Gary O'Neil, with Paraguayan star Julio Enciso also set to arrive for £26 million.
Career Progression and Versatility
Ouattara, who moved to France at the age of 10, has risen through the ranks of Strasbourg's academy. Over the past two seasons, he has made 29 starts and 26 substitute appearances for the first team. His versatility was showcased last season as he played various roles, including right-back, right wing-back, left-back, and central midfield, contributing significantly to Strasbourg's journey to the UEFA Conference League semi-finals.
Player and Manager Comments
Expressing his excitement about the move, Ouattara stated, “I am very happy to have signed for Ipswich Town. The Premier League is the best league in the world, and as soon as I knew the opportunity was there, to play in England under a manager I have already enjoyed working with, I jumped at it.” He added that he looks forward to meeting the fans and his new teammates.
Manager Gary O'Neil praised Ouattara's talent and adaptability, saying, “Abdoul is a talented young player who can play in different positions, so is a very good addition to our squad.” He expressed delight at the opportunity to work with Ouattara again after their time in France.
Due to his age, Ouattara will not count towards Ipswich's Premier League 25-man senior squad limit. His signing marks the 11th acquisition for Ipswich this summer, pushing their total transfer spending beyond £120 million.
