International defender Locks in for Victory | Melbourne Victory
Melbourne Victory has officially signed an international defender, bolstering their roster as they prepare for the new season. This addition aims to strengthen the team's defensive capabilities.

Melbourne Victory has officially announced the signing of Thomas Lockyer, a 31-year-old Welsh international defender. Lockyer, who previously captained Luton Town during their recent tenure in the English Premier League, will join Giovanni Savarese's squad ahead of the 2026/27 A-League season.
Career Highlights
Lockyer has represented Wales 16 times and was part of the national teams that competed in UEFA EURO 2020 and the 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup. He began his professional career at Bristol Rovers in 2013, where he played a pivotal role in the club's rise from the Conference to League One, achieving back-to-back promotions. After spending seven seasons at Rovers, he moved to Charlton Athletic to gain experience in the Championship, and subsequently joined Luton Town, where he aimed to elevate his career further.
In 2023, Lockyer successfully led Luton Town to the Premier League, participating in 14 matches during the club's first top-flight season in over three decades. He returned to Bristol Rovers in October and marked his 300th appearance for the club earlier this year.
Excitement for New Challenges
John Didulica, Melbourne Victory's Director of Football, expressed enthusiasm about Lockyer's addition, stating, “We are especially pleased to have brought a player of Tom’s calibre, courage and leadership qualities to the A-League and to Melbourne Victory.” Didulica highlighted Lockyer's experience in the Premier League and Championship, as well as his international representation, emphasizing the energy he brings to the team.
Lockyer himself expressed his excitement about joining Melbourne Victory, stating, “I am thrilled to have joined Melbourne Victory and cannot wait to get this next chapter of my career underway in such an amazing city.” He looks forward to embracing new challenges and contributing to the club's success.
Lockyer's signing is part of a broader recruitment strategy for Melbourne Victory, which has also seen the arrivals of Harry Sawyer, Harry Shillington, and Philipp Ziereis, along with several contract extensions and new signings as the club prepares for the upcoming season.
