GFA makes decision on Carlos Queiroz’s future as Black Stars coach | Pulse Ghana

The Ghana Football Association has officially announced its decision on Carlos Queiroz's future as the coach of the Black Stars, following recent assessments of the team's performance.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has recommended that Carlos Queiroz continue as the head coach of the Black Stars following the team's performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The decision comes as contract discussions are anticipated in the near future.

GFA's Support for Queiroz

GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirmed that the Executive Council, the GFA's highest decision-making body, has unanimously agreed to endorse Queiroz for a longer-term role. The 73-year-old Portuguese coach was initially appointed on a four-month contract to succeed Otto Addo, just prior to the World Cup. Despite his short tenure, the council has expressed confidence in his capabilities to lead the national team.

Approval Needed from Ministry of Sports

While the GFA's recommendation is a positive step for Queiroz, it does not guarantee his continued position as head coach. Asante Twum emphasized that any new contract must receive approval from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, which is responsible for funding the coach's salary. He noted, “The final decision does not rest on the FA. It must go to the ministry for them to look at the contract and approve because they will pay the salary of the coach.”

Uncertainty Surrounds Queiroz's Financial Situation

Asante Twum also mentioned that he could not confirm whether the government still owed Queiroz any outstanding payments, as he is not directly involved in the financial arrangements. Furthermore, he indicated that he was unaware of the specifics of the GFA's proposed contract or if Queiroz had made any counteroffers.

As negotiations proceed, the future of Carlos Queiroz as the head coach of the Black Stars remains uncertain, hinging on discussions between the GFA, the Ministry of Sports, and the coach himself.
