German media: Estonian 'keeper Karl Hein signs 4-year contract with Werder Bremen | News | ERR
Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein has officially signed a four-year contract with Werder Bremen. This move highlights his potential as he steps into the competitive landscape of the Bundesliga.

Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein has officially joined SV Werder Bremen on a four-year contract, following a loan spell with the club this season, as reported by German media.
Transfer Details
Hein, 24, has been the starting goalkeeper for the Estonian national team and was previously signed by Arsenal in 2019. During his loan to Werder Bremen last year, the club included a buyout clause of €3 million, allowing them to secure his permanent transfer at the end of the loan period. Although there were hopes within Werder to negotiate a lower fee, journalist Florian Plettenberg confirmed that the club has activated the buyout option and finalized the acquisition of Hein's rights.
Contract and Future Prospects
The new contract for Hein with Werder Bremen will extend until the summer of 2030. This move comes as Werder's former first-choice goalkeeper, Mio Backhaus, is reportedly set to transfer to SC Freiburg for a fee exceeding €15 million. In the recent Europa League final, Freiburg faced a defeat against Aston Villa, losing 3-0.
During the 2025-2026 season, Hein made two appearances for Werder Bremen, competing against Bayern Munich and St. Pauli, which also featured Estonian national captain Karol Mets. Werder Bremen concluded the Bundesliga season in 15th place, while Mets is expected to depart from St. Pauli.
